The Englishman entered the final round with a five-shot lead. It narrowed during a patient opening stretch in which he made 12 consecutive pars before finding his first birdie at the 13th.
Fitzpatrick pulled clear again on the closing holes and finished with a round of 70. The DP World Tour reported a three-stroke margin and an 11th tour win for him.
The finish underlined how quickly the shape of a golf tournament can change even when one player appears in control. A large overnight lead became a two-shot cushion before Fitzpatrick’s late scoring removed the doubt.
